Walter Football gives Dimitri Flowers the label of fullback, and NFL.com lists him among their running backs. As Lance Zierlein of NFL.com wrote on his draft profile:

"Flowers may be viewed by some teams as a luxury, but he’s the type of luxury item that will pay for itself over time."

The reason is that Flowers is the ultimate Swiss Army knife in the 2018 NFL Draft. In the NFL of 2018, Flowers is an ultimate weapon, and he’s at the Jets disposal. Flowers is a good route runner and blocker, and the Jets could use him in a similar way the Sooners did.

He can play fullback and be a lead blocker in the I-formation, play in-line tight end, H-back or wingback. The Jets could even line him up as a lone-set back in short yardage and have him run. He won’t gain extra yards after the catch or break free on running plays, but that’s not what the Jets need him for. They need him to be a downs eater and be that guy who moves the chains.

He can also provide the Jets with a good special teams tackle guy. That’s why he’s a “luxury item that will pay for itself over time.” You can’t define him by one position, and you have to pay close attention to him, because he will help the Jets move the chains or score touchdowns in goal line situations.

He’s a football player, not defined by one position, but by his role. Flowers will be a role player in the truest sense of the word.
