1. Quenton Nelson, OG, Notre Dame

Most in the draft community consider Notre Dame offensive guard Quenton Nelson to be one of the best overall prospects in the entire 2018 NFL draft class. He is an absolute mauler in the run can who can erase opposing defenders at the point of attack.

Nelson also shows good quickness off of the snap, consistently making blocks at the second level. His ability to reach block for a big and powerful player is also awfully impressive.

Nelson’s powerful run blocking ability is what he is best known for, but he is also a rock-solid pass protector who shows the ability to handle both power and speed. Keeping the pocket clean will be important for the development of Mitch Trubisky and having an elite pass protector like Nelson at guard would tremendously help that.

Simply put, Quenton Nelson is the best offensive guard prospect in recent memory. He is a safe and reliable selection who also has legitimate All Pro upside at the next level.

After cutting ties with Josh Sitton this offseason, the Bears have a need at offensive guard. They could look to fill that need later in the draft, but Nelson fills it with an absolute bullet. He is the kind of player who you can build an offensive line around, and if Nelson happens to be available at number eight, the Chicago Bears should run to the podium to make him the selection.
