Oakland Raiders: 7-Round 2018 mock draft after first wave of free agency
Wide receivers with upside
In my opinion, the Oakland Raiders made an odd move at the wide receiver position this offseason when they cut Michael Crabtree in order to make room to sign Jordy Nelson. Nelson has had an incredible NFL career on the outside, but we simply does not create the same kind of separation as he did before and we do not know how he will perform without Aaron Rodgers as his quarterback.
Honestly, I do not expect much out of Nelson in Oakland. Amari Cooper is the clear number one, but he needs help. I think the Raiders would be wise to shoot for some wide receiver upside in the 2018 NFL Draft, and that is exactly what they do with the next two picks of this mock draft.
Based on talent alone, Antonio Callaway is one of the most intriguing receivers in this entire draft class. He is an extremely fast and athletic player who shows impressive quickness and playmaking ability in the short passing game and also legitimate deep speed. Callaway is an explosive athlete who has ridiculous natural upside at the next level.
Callaway has exciting talent, but dealt with many off-field issues in college. His tendency to get in trouble makes Callaway a risky selection, but he could be worth the risk in this range. For a fifth round compensatory selection, I like the idea of the Raiders taking a shot on Callaway.
At 5-foot-9, 190 pounds, Ray-Ray McCloud does not have ideal size. However, he is a fast and explosive athlete who could become a real offensive playmaker at the next level.
Simply put, McCloud is a dangerous weapon with the ball in his hands. He shows fantastic start and stop quickness that makes him incredibly difficult to take in open space. McCloud will never be a full-time outside receiver, but he is an extremely interesting prospect who can certainly make some noise as an offensive weapon and in the return game.
