There’s one huge knock on Greg Stroman, and you can clearly see it in the photo above. He’s skinny, and it will negatively affect his ability to get solo tackles in the running game. That said, he can cover, and that’s exactly what the Jets need.

He fits the definition of what a cover corner should be. Stroman can play off coverage, but what the Jets need he specializes in. He’s a man-to-man press coverage player. He allowed his man to be targeted 37 times in his junior and senior seasons at Virginia Tech, and he only allowed 25 targets total.

Stroman will make a play on the ball, too. Over his final two seasons in Blacksburg had seven interceptions and 21 passes defended. Another thing that adds value is his ability on special teams. He improved his punt return average each of his four seasons with the Hokies, and he returned at least one punt for a touchdown in his final three seasons (two in 2017).

The Jets need a cornerback who can play man to man and press coverage to allow the defensive front to get to the quarterback. Along with his special teams ability, Stroman gives the Jets exactly that. He also follows the idea of the last two picks, a guy who can fill multiple roles.
