Kentavius Street played defensive end in college and, technically, that’s where he’ll play in the NFL. However, his role for the Jets will be different than what most people think of when they think of a defensive end.

Some scouts have qualms about his ability to be a pass rusher, but the Jets defensive “ends” play on the inside. So, they’re not expected to be the primary pass rushers, and are more like the typical defensive tackle. In essence, the Jets play with two defensive tackles and a nose tackle.

Street weighed in at 280 pounds at the Combine. So, he will have to add weight to move inside. He’s strong enough to play against guards and be the run stuffer the Jets need, and he has enough explosiveness in his one spin move to get the occasional sack the Jets will need him to get.

The combination of Street, Leonard Williams, and whoever they have playing nose tackle will be a formidable front to deal with, and can open things up for the edge rushers in the passing game. Against the run, they will limit teams from getting up field and open things up for the inside linebackers to step up and make tackles. Street is a perfect value pick in the seventh round.
