All of a sudden, the San Francisco 49ers are ready to become serious playoff contenders in the NFC for the first time in what seems like forever thanks to finishing last season on a hot note by winning their final five games. Without question, the decision to acquire Jimmy Garoppolo from the Patriots last year worked wonders for the 49ers, and now that he’s going to be around for the long run, Kyle Shanahan finally has the quarterback he’s been waiting for.

Shanahan has always been known to get the best from quarterbacks, and with a whole offseason to spend time working with Garoppolo, one can only imagine what kind of magic these two are going to put together in 2018. Then again, if San Francisco truly wants to take their game to a whole new level, the defense will need to come through on their end as well.

Cornerback was a major need for the 49ers entering the offseason, and even if they decided to trade back in the first round, there will most likely still be plenty of great prospects to choose from. Many questioned the decision by Josh Jackson to leave Iowa after his junior year, but after seeing him record eight interceptions to go along with the 18 passes he broke up, it’s easy to understand why the corner believes he’s ready for the NFL.
