Interesting doesn’t even begin to describe how this offseason has been for the Washington Redskins after eliminating the possibility of Kirk Cousins returning early on by agreeing to acquire Alex Smith from the Kansas City Chiefs. All of last season, the biggest topic of discussion in Washington was whether the Redskins would open up their checkbook for Cousins, but now he’s a member of the Vikings, all eyes will be on Smith under center in 2018.

Throughout his career, Smith has always been considered one of the best managers in the game, but how he will look playing with this new group of receivers is a different story. Not to mention, Washington is one of those teams with numerous questions on the defensive side of the football, meaning the first round could be the perfect opportunity to address one of those needs.

Trading down may not seem like the best option for a team like the Redskins, but if they could manage to do so while getting away with landing a linebacker like Leighton Vander Esch in the process, it would all work out for the best. When seeing Esch’s ability to cover all areas of the football field, Washington’s defense would see a major upgrade right away.
