Round 4: Shaquem Griffin, LB, Central Florida

Shaquem Griffin is selected to add depth to the linebacker corps. Griffin had an outstanding performance at the Combine. He plays tough and with heart which is reminiscent of Paul Posluzsny.

At the Combine, he bench pressed 225 pounds 20 times. He ran a 4.38-second 40-yard dash, which is outstanding for a linebacker. Adding his speed makes the Jaguars defense faster and quicker to the ball.

Griffin’s story has touched many people. Gene Frenette of Jacksonville.com writes this about Griffin:

"The bottom line is Griffin is one of those football players you want representing your team on and off the field. Coaches usually find a place for fast players who can play multiple roles, and his rise to fame because of the adversity he’s overcome is an added bonus."

Griffin is a faster younger version of Posluzsny who recently retired. Both men play football with passion which can not be coached but comes from within. Seems like the perfect addition to the young passionate Jaguars defense.

Griffin stands 6-1, weighing 227 pounds. At Central Florida, he made a combined total of 195 tackles with 33.5 of them for lost yards. He had three interceptions and returned a fumble for a touchdown. The Jaguars do not have a pick in the fifth round. Let’s see where they go in the sixth round.
