Round 6: Allen Lazard, WR, Iowa State

Allen Lazard is the next addition to the Jaguars passing offense. Lazard might be the best available here in the sixth round. He would be a big physical target for Bortles. Lazard stands 6-5, weighing 222 pounds. Physically, he is a hybrid receiver which could be a split receiver or tight end. He would create a mismatch in man coverages.

At Iowa State, he caught 241 passes for 3,360 yards with 26 touchdowns. Most of all, he averaged 13.9 yards per reception. Lazard helped Iowa State move the chains. Lazard made big plays last season on the road against Oklahoma. He caught three passes for 69 yards and one touchdown. The touchdown was the game winning reception.

Lazard ran a 4.55-second 40-yard dash at the Combine. He did 17 repetitions with 225 pounds on the benchpress. He has good speed and strength for either a wide receiver or tight end.

Zierlein of NFL.com gives an overview of Lazard’s ability:

"Lazard  … is a possession receiver, … With his size and toughness, a switch to pass-catching tight end might give him a better shot at having a productive NFL career."

Lazard is another receiver that Jacksonville could use in a variety of formations. His size would cause opposing defensive coordinators trouble if he lined up as a slot receiver. He would be especially awesome on fade routes in the red zone.

A look at where Jacksonville addresses next.
