In his early college days, Jones was more an elusive runner that used quickness and speed. In 2017, though, he began to show an ability to used power to evade tacklers too. He still the ability to evade tacklers by planting and using his quickness, and now he’s added power.

He’s a developed outside runner as well. Jones can find backside lanes, slip off the edge, and run for huge gains on the outside if defenses overpursue. He’s not a third down liability either. He’s a capable pass-catcher, even though he wasn’t asked to do that much at USC, and he can hold his own as a blocker. Another great thing about Jones is that he won’t turn the ball over. At USC, he had 591 carries, and he only fumbled twice.

On his NFL.com draft profile, an NFC personnel executive questions his ability to handle an NFL workload:

"“He may be a little too light to give it to him more than 12-14 times per game though. I worry if he can hold up.” – NFC Personnel executive"

In the NFL of today, the workload is split among backs anyway. So, whether or not he can handle the carries is very minimal. He can be a receiving threat, and a running threat, which is exactly what the Giants need in their backfield, a guy who poses a threat to the defense and one who the defense can’t lock in as a runner or receiver.
