Odell Beckham Jr. is currently the only weapon the Giants have on the outside. They need a second weapon on the outside to take some pressure off OBJ. Luckily for the Giants, there’s someone perfect in this draft to fill that role, and it’s Dante Pettis.

For all you stat geeks out there that will judge a player on his production, you will notice a drop in production in 2017 from 2016. There’s a very simple explanation for the production dip in 2017. He went from Washington’s second option behind John Ross (the guy who set the 40-yard dash record at the Combine in 2017) to the primary option. When defenses could focus on him, he proved that he’s not a No. 1 option. That’s ok, though, because that’s not what Big Blue needs.

Pettis is a reliable pass catcher with only three drops in 2017. He also set career highs in total yards, average, and touchdowns as a punt returner in 2017. So, that’s a bonus for the Giants. He will make the necessary adjustments to make the catch, including going back to the ball.

He scored 15 touchdowns as the second option in Washington in 2016. So, he’s capable of being a very reliable second option and an offensive threat in that capacity. If the Giants can get that production from Pettis as a second option, their offense will be tough to tame in 2018.
