Giants fans want their team to take one of the top quarterbacks to take over for Eli Manning when the time comes. Let’s look at recent history dating back to just before the turn of the century when it comes to quarterbacks, their draft spot, and the Super Bowl.

Kurt Warner was an undrafted free agent who took over after Trent Green was injured. Tom Brady was the 199th overall pick and an injury replacement for Drew Bledsoe. Aaron Rodgers fell to 28th overall, and he sat behind Brett Favre for three season while they fine tunes his mechanics. Russell Wilson was the 75th overall pick in the third round who beat out the starter that was given a huge offseason free agent contract, and led his team to back-to-back Super Bowl appearances (winning one). And Nick Foles was a late season injury replacement who was selected 88th overall in the third round. So, it’s not about where a quarterback is drafted that determines success.

Luke Falk is similar to Aaron Rodgers in the fact that he needs to fine tune his game, and the Giants can continue to build while he’s learning. He’s accurate on all three levels, but his lack of mobility led to him taking a lot of hits, and scouts wonder what kind of toll that took on him. He has the intelligence and the tools to make it as a starter in this league. It’s just a matter of psyche. If he can get that down, he’s capable of become a solid starting quarterback in the NFL.
