There’s an old saying, “Think long, go wrong.” That saying hold as true in football as it does in life, and when you look at Smith’s NFL.com scouting report, there’s one negative that stands out. It says he “Plays robotic and top-heavy at times.” The robotic part is due to over thinking rather than just going out a playing.

He’s definitely got the talent to play in this league. He’s strong on the bench press (as shown at the Combine with 35 reps), and on tape, as he can maul interior defenders who try to bull rush. He’s also big enough to handle duties as a tackle if you need him too in an emergency.

He has no qualms about playing against another player in the power game. Smith will match the power of the opponent he’s lined up against on a regular basis.

Yogi Berra once said, “90 percent of baseball is mental. The other half is physical.” The same holds true in football. Smith needs to just stop over-thinking things, and like the old Nike commercial used to say, just do it. If he can just do it, the Giants will have a solid interior lineman for years to come.
