Washington Redskins: 5 First-round targets in 2018 NFL Draft
The Washington Redskins have the 13th overall selection in the 2018 NFL Draft. Will they address the defense, or go with a running back?
The Washington Redskins have had an eventful offseason thus far. The Redskins struck early, making a trade with Kansas City to acquire quarterback Alex Smith. Sure, it cost the Redskins a talented starting cornerback Kendall Fuller and a third-round pick in the upcoming 2018 NFL Draft, but they finally had clarity at the quarterback position.
Free agency came and saw the Redskins add a speedy weapon for Smith in wide receiver Paul Richardson. Unfortunately, while Washington has added some pieces on offense, the defense — which finished 21st overall, but a dreadful 32nd against the run — hasn’t received much help. The Redskins did re-sign both starting inside linebackers in Zach Brown and Mason Foster, which makes that position less of a need. However, the secondary did lose two of its top three corners in Fuller and Bashaud Breeland, and the defensive line has added no one.
The Redskins made it known throughout the offseason that adding help on the defensive line was a major priority. They’ve brought in Muhammad Wilkerson and Johnathan Hankins for visits but signed neither one. Wilkerson chose the Packers, while Hankins remains unsigned. Washington is very hesitant to give big money to any free-agent lineman, instead focusing on incentive-laden, one-year deals.
The Redskins need plenty of help on the defensive side of the ball, a starting running back and a left guard. Some of those holes will be filled in this month’s draft. Where will the Redskins go with their first-round pick?
