Philadelphia Eagles: 7-Round 2018 mock draft in mid-April
On the surface, it seems like the Eagles are set at cornerback. However, upon further investigation, we see that there’s a glaring weakness. Following the departure of Patrick Robinson via free agency, Philadelphia is left with plenty of outside cornerbacks and no proven slot options.
Well, if he’s still on the board in the fourth round, Rashaan Gaulden needs to be the pick here. He’s one of the 2018 draft class’ top slot cornerbacks, and someone who could help keep the Eagles pass defense intact after an outstanding effort a season ago.
It doesn’t take much film of Gaulden to see the type of tough, attacking slot cornerback he’s capable of being. He’s a physical, aggressive player who isn’t afraid to fly up and make an impact against the run. His awareness and football IQ are exceptional, and he showed the ability to play all over the field. Some have even suggested a move to safety could be an option.
Either way, Gaulden is a talent the Eagles would love to have. There’s a decent chance he’s no longer available at No. 130 — NFL Draft Scout’s Dane Brugler sees him as a Top 50 prospect — but stranger things have happened on draft day.
If he starts to slide, Philadelphia may want to move up. Seriously, Gaulden is that perfect of a fit for this franchise’s need in the slot.
