The Eagles love to stash running backs — it’s a known fact. What’s more is they use them all, it seems. With Darren Sproles still unsigned and Jay Ajayi only having a year left on his contract, it wouldn’t be the least bit surprising if Philadelphia added another runner to the stable.

Insert Martez Carter and watch the sparks fly.

While I wouldn’t go as far as calling him a Sproles clone, his size (5-7, 190 pounds) certainly sounds familiar. Despite his diminutive frame, there’s little evidence to suggest the Grambling product can’t hold his own at the next level.

Considering his frame, Carter runs with surprising power and aggressiveness. It’s his explosiveness and athleticism that have gotten him noticed by NFL scouts, though. Some have even gone as far as calling him the Tarik Cohen of the 2018 draft class. That may or may not be the case, but Carter makes a compelling argument.

Especially if Sproles isn’t re-signed, Carter can step into his role as the do-it-all scat back. He’s a proven receiver out of the backfield, and can even make his presence felt in the return game. For a sixth-round pick, the Eagles would be getting their money’s worth with the former Tiger.
