Dallas Cowboys: D.J. Moore the only acceptable offensive target at No. 19
By Randy Gurzi
The Dallas Cowboys need to get an impact player at No. 19 and the only player they should accept on offense is Maryland wide receiver D.J. Moore
Just a couple weeks away from the 2018 NFL Draft and the ideas about what the Dallas Cowboys should do with the No. 19 overall pick are as far ranging as their fan base. Defensively, there are those who think they should trade up for safety Derwin James out of Florida State, or maybe stay put and hope either edge rusher Harold Landry out of Boston College or nose tackle Vita Vea out of Washington slips to them.
Offensively, the arguments seem to center around offensive line and wide receiver. Some believe the team should fix the hole at left guard by taking Isaiah Wynn out of Georgia or Will Hernandez out of UTEP. Both players would be great starters, but with three former first-round picks already on the line, is it necessary?
The short answer is no. Dallas should see an improvement in 2018 simply based on the return to health of left tackle Tyron Smith. Instead of spending a fourth-premium pick on the line, Dallas needs to invest in a young wide receiver who can grow alongside quarterback Dak Prescott.
As to who that should be, the only target is D.J. Moore out of Maryland. He’s been favorably compared to Stefon Diggs, who also was a standout for the Terps, but Moore has a little more size.
That’s not to say he’s a big wide out though as he’s listed at just 6-0 and 210 pounds. He plays much bigger though as Moore has no issue hand fighting with corners and is willing to absorb hits from defenders and keep going.
What makes him a great prospect for Dallas is his ability to run multiple routes. While at Maryland, Moore lined up all over the field and was effective from the slot as well as outside. During his senior season, Moore had 1,033 yards and eight touchdowns off 80 receptions. Had there been better quarterback play, his numbers would have been even better.
Moore had a lot of tape where he was able to beat his man, but the ball wasn’t delivered — or it was short of the target. While some question Prescott’s accuracy, that shouldn’t be as big a problem at the next level.
The junior receiver also showed a willingness to deliver blocks in the run game, which is huge with the coaches in Dallas. Also big with them is position flex, and Moore had 15 punt returns for the Terps in 2017 showing he can be used there in a pinch as well.

Dallas focused heavily on changing their entire cornerback room in 2017 and the results were favorable. They need to do the same with wide outs, and the draft is the place to do so.
Other names will be thrown out there as the NFL Draft approaches, but Moore is far and away the best choice for the Boys and he should be there at No. 19.
