The New York Giants could be open to trading down, but who should they trade their No. 2 overall pick to in order to get their best deal?

When the New England Patriots traded for the No. 23 overall pick, rumors began to circulate that they might attempt to trade for the No. 1 overall pick to get their replacement for Jimmy Garoppolo. So, should the New York Giants trade down from No. 2 overall in order to get a haul to rebuild the roster? If so, who should they trade with?

The answer to the first question is yes. The two most likely scenarios for the No. 1 overall pick are as follows, given the recent action. Cleveland trades the No. 1 overall pick for a haul from New England, or they take Josh Allen with the No. 1 overall pick and trade the No. 4 pick with New England. Either way the Giants should consider trading the No. 2 overall pick to one team, the Denver Broncos.

Both the Colts and the Giants need an edge rusher. So, moving down below the Colts makes no sense, because then they won’t get the guy they want. Moving down to No. 5 accomplishes two things. It keeps them ahead of the Colts, and they get more picks.

Trading with the Bills makes no sense. Even though they end up with two first round picks, Bradley Chubb — the best edge rusher in the draft — won’t fall to No. 12. That’s the only other viable move, and it’s not reasonable for what the Giants need.

The Giants are looking to build a team for one more run at a Super Bowl with Eli Manning. The best way to do that is with a great defense. Both of his Super Bowls were on the backs of great defenses, and that’s the way it should be with this one. They should either take Chubb at No. 2 or move down where they can still get him. Either way, Chubb should be their guy.
