2018 NFL Mock Draft: 6 Surprise quarterback trades cause madness
By Dan Parzych
Early on in the offseason, the Denver Broncos were one of the teams expected to strongly consider using a first round pick on a quarterback, and while that could still very well happen, the team is in much better shape with Case Keenum. After helping the Minnesota Vikings earn a trip to the NFC Championship this past season, the Broncos hope Keenum can find similar success to get this offense back on track following two years of disappointment.
Unfortunately, Denver learned the hard way over the last two years just how difficult it is to make the playoffs without a reliable quarterback under center since Trevor Siemian and Brock Osweiler were far from the right answer. Now that Keenum is on board, it’s up to the Broncos to make sure their new quarterback receives the proper protection from the offensive line, which is where Quenton Nelson could come into play at No. 5.
Chances are the Notre Dame product is going to be the first offensive lineman selected in the draft when looking at how difficult of a time opponents have getting by Nelson. Between an addition of someone like Nelson along with an upgrade at quarterback in Keenum, maybe the Broncos’ offense will return to their form from a few years ago, and end their two-year drought of missing out on the playoffs.
