The Philadelphia Eagles are bringing back Zach Ertz and Alshon Jeffery, while adding Mike Wallace. Nelson Agholor is still extremely important though.

Last season was a major breakout year for Nelson Agholor. His first two years in the NFL were highlighted with dropped catches. Due to that, the wide receiver entered year three on the bad side of plenty of Philadelphia Eagles fans.

The USC product posted career-highs in every category though. He was second on the team in receptions (62) and touchdowns (8). Meanwhile, his 768 receiving yards were good enough for third on the Eagles last year.

The only two ahead of him in any of those categories were Zach Ertz and Alshon Jeffery. Both will be back next season.

Then there’s the new addition of Mike Wallace. Thanks to Wallace, some may believe that Agholor’s role or importance could be diminished. This shouldn’t be the case, however.

Wallace is a solid receiver, but despite being the best option for the Baltimore Ravens last season actually posted lower receptions (52) and yards (748) than Agholor. Meanwhile, his four touchdowns weren’t even close to the eight the Eagles receiver recorded. That’s not a knock on Wallace, but merely something pointing out that he’s more of a deep-threat.

The veteran isn’t the best route-runner in the world, but he’s still a burner. Therefore, he’s best utilized as a big-play guy (as evidenced by his ridiculous ridiculous 15 yards per reception over his career).

Agholor is a solid all-around package however. His hands looked much better in 2017, while his route-running improved as well. He’s always had speed, and the athleticism helps him make tough plays.

With so many returning faces, and a pretty big new one, it’s easy to see why some may believe Nelson Agholor will see a smaller role in 2018. The Philadelphia Eagles would be smart to continue their trust in the 24-year-old however. He’s only going to get better.
