Round 6, Pick 18: Tony Brown, CB, Alabama

At this point in the draft, you’re just looking to add guys with nice pedigrees and/or physical traits that might hit and be able to contribute for your team. Thus, adding a player like Tony Brown here could be a steal. Though the Cowboys have addressed cornerback heavily in recent years, another body in the secondary wouldn’t hurt. Brown is an imperfect player, no doubt, but he has experience and solid upside for a sixth-round pick.

Round 6, Pick 19: Jaleel Scott, WR, New Mexico State

If you’re a fan of big-body receivers that have upside, Jaleel Scott is the sixth-round pick for you. At 6-5, 215 pounds, he has a long, long frame and he knows how to use it. While New Mexico State isn’t exactly playing SEC teams each week, Scott proved the ability to make plays on the ball in the air with the best of them. While he needs polishing to be a complete player, he’s an upside pick that could develop into a consistent contributor and, perhaps most importantly, a red zone threat.

Round 6, Pick 34: Dominick Sanders, S, Georgia

Remember when we talked about adding depth at safety in regards to Jordan Whitehead? We’re doing it again here with Dominick Sanders. Again, this point in the draft isn’t about grabbing superstars — they are all long gone for the most part. However, you want guys with discernible skills that could translate to the NFL. If nothing else, Sanders has a bit of that and adds competition on the back end of the secondary.

Round 7, Pick 18: Ito Smith, RB, Southern Miss

The Cowboys obviously have Ezekiel Elliott and, hopefully, get a full season of the elite running back this season. And while Rod Smith is a nice player, there needs to be a scat-back type that’s more of a pass-catching threat. It’s not a dire need by any means, but that’s a role Ito Smith could potentially fill. He had tremendous production throughout all four years at Southern Miss, and displayed great ability as a receiver out of the backfield. Adding that element to the Cowboys offense could be huge when they need to spell Elliott for a down or two.
