New York Jets 2018 NFL Draft Target: Kemoko Turay
Threre’s one huge hole on the Jets that needs to be addressed after quarterback: edge rusher. Local product Kemoko Turay could be their answer if he falls to them in Round 3.
The New York Jets no longer have a second-round pick in the 2018 NFL Draft (unless they trade up again) since they traded up to get the No. 3 overall pick. They traded up, presumably, to get the franchise quarterback. They still have a few holes on the offensive line, at tight end and, most notably, on the defensive edge.
The Jets need player who can get after the quarterback. The job of the Jets defensive line is to open things up for the edge rushers to get to the quarterback, and the edge rushers on the Jets just didn’t do that in 2017.
Kemoko Turay is a local player out of Rutgers who can give the Jets exactly what they need from the position. Turay was a long jump and triple jump champion in high school, which shows his strength is his lower half.
In terms of football, he’s come a long way since his high school days, in which he only played two seasons due to his school not having a program while he was a sophomore and junior. He’s explosive, moves well from sideline to sideline, doesn’t miss tackles, closes well, and always has his motor running.
He’s not just a pass rusher. If the Jets need him to play zone, he can do that too. He understands zone concepts well, and always watches the quarterback’s eyes. Turay is the every down edge defender the Jets need.

According to his NFL.com draft profile, he’s coachable. So, the things that are currently negatives can work themselves out at the next level. In the end, he fills a need, and he’s got the talent to perform. So, if he’s available, the Jets should consider him.
