Saquon Barkley is undoubtedly the best running back in this class, and some people have the Giants taking Barkley in Round 1. However, this running back class is deep, and that means the Giants can wait until the 34th overall pick to land their running back.

The Giants signed Jonathan Stewart, but that’s definitely not enough. They will need to draft a running back, and Rashaad Penny is their guy.

NFL.com’s Lance Zierlein wrote on Penny’s draft profile that he’s probably not destined to be a great back in the NFL. That said, he does provide the Giants with a guy who will get yards as the game and carries progress, and that’s what they need.

He’s strong enough to elude tacklers who are arm tackling, while also having some elusive qualities of a slashing type back. Penny has shown the patience and ability to set up the blocks in front of him to get the openings he needs. He also has the ability to be a three-down back and be a pass-catching option. In addition to his skills in the backfield, he can also provide the Giants with a kickoff returner. All of those make him very valuable at No. 34 overall.
