With Dez Bryant being let go by the Dallas Cowboys, could he be a target for the Buffalo Bills at wide receiver?

If the season started today, the Buffalo Bills would enter the 2018 season with Kelvin Benjamin and Zay Jones as their top two receivers. The team brought in Benjamin via trade midway through the season and drafted Jones to bolster their receiving corps. Both are entering the season with question marks.

Benjamin hasn’t shown he can be a legitimate go to receiver in this league, and Jones ran into some legal trouble this offseason. With the draft lacking receiving talent, adding another veteran free agent would be ideal.

The Dallas Cowboys just recently cut long-time No. 1 receiver, Dez Bryant. The move was meant to shed salary cap, and get a fresh start at the wide receiver position.

With the Bills in desperate need of a wide receiver, it comes as no surprise the Bills are interested in Bryant. According to NFL insider Ian Rapoport, the Bills are among the teams have shown interest in the former Cowboys receiver.

Now, it may seem like a long shot that Bryant would come play in Buffalo, but considering the circumstances, it isn’t that farfetched. Bryant reportedly wants to stay in the NFC East and stick it to the Cowboys twice a year. However, the Giants, Eagles and Redskins have shown no interest in signing him.

The Bills are looking for help at receiver, and it will be tough to invest a high pick on one in the draft. Many believe they will trade their top picks (Nos. 12 and 22) to move up and draft a quarterback. The draft isn’t supposed to produce a lot of talent from the wide receiver position, so investing in Bryant may not be a bad idea.

Buffalo’s roster still has some pieces to make a run for it in the AFC this season. Even if they bring on a young quarterback, AJ McCarron will most likely start the season as the starter. If McCarron can provide the Bills with a spark on offense, Bryant would be an ideal target for any quarterback.

If Dez Bryant is willing to come to Buffalo, the Bills should definitely look into bringing him on board. He is a big-bodied receiver who scares opponents’ secondaries. Even with his production falling the past couple seasons, he can still be a legitimate number one receiver, or a solid number two. At the right price, signing Bryant could benefit this team in the short term.
