Denver Broncos: Does C.J. Anderson release tip 2018 draft plans?

By this pick, the Broncos will be looking at a guy who may have fell through the cracks like San Diego State’s Rashaad Penny. The 5-11, 220-pound back has added value as a kick returner, but his true value comes as a runner. Penny has excellent foot quickness that makes him dangerous one-on-one and allows him to make something out of nothing.
There’s some power to his game, but he has the ability to become a slasher. He won’t make too many moves and will use one cut and go up the field after he patiently waits for his line to block. Penny’s 2,248 yards and 23 touchdowns in college showcase his ability.
Kalen Ballage is another option here for Denver, and a specimen of an athlete. He’s 6-1, 227 pounds and moves like a back that’s some 15 pounds lighter. His finesse comes as easy as his power, but the lack of vision hurts his stock, despite his 4.42 speed and versatility as a pass-catcher. Ballage is a lot like Latavius Murray who Musgrave coached during his time on Oakland.

With the Broncos likely to run a dual-back system, they could look to take a back who can just gain positive yardage on first and second downs. With that said, the Broncos could make use of Oregon’s Royce Freeman. At 5-11, 234 pounds, Freeman is a one trick pony who does that one trick exceptionally well.
Freeman is a rare four-year starter at running back who had film that warranted an early exit. He rushed for over 5,600 yards with 60 touchdowns and has 79 catches to boot while with the Ducks. Freeman is a potential workhorse who, because of his NCAA offense, fits exceptionally well in Musgrave’s offense. Despite Freeman’s productivity and sophomore tape, scouts have underrated him.

A similar back to Freeman with a little less wiggle, who may also be available it Alabama’s Bo Scarbrough, who is a downhill thunder runner with huge frame at 6-2, 232 pounds. Scarbrough would be an excellent feature in an offense that utilizes dual backs — he and Booker would make for a great tandem.
