Round 7: Shaquem Griffin, LB, Central Florida

Shaquem Griffin gets the nod here in the seventh round. The retirement of Paul Posluzsny leaves an open spot at linebacker. Griffin is proving to be worthy of that spot.

At the NFL Combine, Griffin stole the show. He ran a 4.38-second 40 yard dash. Griffin displayed his strength by performing 20 repetitions with 225 pounds on the bench press. He proved that he is fast and strong. At Central Florida, he sacked the quarterback 18.5 times. He had a combined tackle total of 195. He stands six feet one inch tall weighing 223 pounds.

An overview by Zierlein of Griffin appears at NFL.com:

"… His upfield burst as an edge blitzer and his range as a tackler are two strengths that NFL teams could capitalize on. Griffin is a hybrid player and teams will need to place him in a role similar to how he played at UCF…"

Griffin originally played safety at Central Florida but moved to linebacker in 2016. He might possibly become a strong safety for run support.

He would provide quality depth on special teams because of his speed and quickness to get downfield. His inner drive is proof that he is a specially motivated person. According to Jourdan Rodrigue of CharlotteObserver.com, Griffin says:

"“Don’t set limits for me, … and I look at myself in the mirror, its only me that I see in the mirror. … That’s how I live, day by day. … it’s up to me to accomplish everything I want out of life.”"

Now for the last pick in the 2018 Jacksonville Jaguars mock draft.
