1. Troy Fumagalli, Wisconsin

If Mike Maccagnan can’t land either Thomas or Andrews, Fumagalli would be a fall-back option on Day 3 of the draft. The 6-6, 248-pounder does not project as a starter on the NFL level at this point in time but he does have some upside and would provide New York with some quality depth.

The Aurora, IL native was born without an index finger on his left hand due to a birth defect. That did not faze Fumagalli, who hauled in 46 receptions for 547 yards and a career-high four touchdowns for the Badgers last year. He’s known for having strong hands and for making the difficult reception at the point of contact.

Let’s take a look at some of his highlights:

If you’re looking for a speedy tight end then Fumagalli is not your man. However, if you want a hard-nosed, tough competitor who runs disciplined routes, then Fumagalli can certainly help you. He’s a decent blocker in the running game but is not considered a great athlete. He does have the balance and coordination needed though to make a spectacular catch from time to time.

Fumagalli makes a fine red zone target based on his height and length. He needs to add a few more pounds of muscle though to withstand the rigors of NFL competition. He’s a developmental project with an adequate ceiling who can also be productive on special teams. Fumagalli would certainly be worth a late round flyer.
