Oakland Raiders: Biggest takeaways from the 2018 schedule release
Tough Monday Night Football Opener
Welcome back to the NFL, Gruden. You’re up against one of the most improved teams between the 2016-17 campaigns. It’s a club that added multiple Pro Bowlers on defense during the offseason. Good luck.
Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay worked under both Gruden brothers. Now, he’s running his own show coming off the previous season with the No. 1 scoring offense in the league. He’s working with Wade Phillips, who’s been coaching on the professional level for over 40 years and frustrated the Raiders at his previous defensive coordinator job in Denver.
The 70-year old play-caller will have cornerbacks Aqib Talib and Marcus Peters as well as defensive tackles Aaron Donald and Ndamukong Suh looking to destroy Gruden’s offensive plans. It’s a tall order in a reintroduction. However, a dangerous roster on paper doesn’t always pan out on the field. It’s also the first game. Regardless of how talented, the pieces will need time to mesh.
The Raiders will host the Rams at the Oakland Coliseum in the opening Monday Night Football doubleheader. The fans will occupy the stadium in full force to welcome Chucky back. When the first whistle blows, we’ll see what he cooked up over the weeks to attack a talented group.
