Oakland Raiders: Ranking the team’s top 2018 offseason additions
There’s a new (old) sheriff in the Bay Area as Jon Gruden is back with the Oakland Raiders. So who have been the best additions for the Silver and Black?
Following the rehiring of head coach Jon Gruden by the Oakland Raiders this offseason, there have been a lot of question marks surrounding his ability to still coach the game. There are other suggesting he’s been away from the league far too long. All told, Gruden’s final season on the NFL sidelines was in 2008, when he was still in charge of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
As for his days with the Silver and Black, you have to go back to 1998-2001 to find his Raiders’ resume. It includes a 38-26 regular-season record, as well as playoff appearances in his final two years with the club. Oakland reached the 2000 AFC title game, a 16-3 home loss to the eventual Super Bowl champion Baltimore Ravens.
One year later, the Raiders fell in overtime at snowy Foxborough, in the AFC Divisional playoffs to the eventual Super Bowl champion New England Patriots. So call it a comeback, as Gruden has spent plenty of time watching and covering the game from the broadcast booth, as well as conducting those quarterback camps and covering the NFL draft.
This offseason, Gruden and general manager Reggie McKenzie have been incredibly busy adding and subtracting players. So with less than a week before the 2018 NFL draft, who are the Silver and Black’s top five offseason pickups?
