Chicago Bears: 7-Round 2018 mock draft three days away
Yes, I’m still going with Tremaine Edmunds. The more I see his tape the more I feel he’ll be defensive coordinator Vic Fangio’s perfect clay ready for molding. HIs size, length, and athleticism are so amazing.
This choice probably comes down to either Edmunds or Roquan Smith. Both players are great and add to the defense. Smith is the more polished prospect, however. We already know what to expect from him. As I said, though, Edmunds can be molded. He has all the skills to succeed and at 19 he is still a sponge.
Edmunds isn’t your ordinary 19-year old, however. He has some experience already, and his body, at 6-5 and 253 pounds, still has room to get bigger. Smith, at 6-1 and 236 pounds, is at his limit. Knowing that Pace goes for the athletic freaks, I think he goes with Edmunds here. Luckily for me, the choice was made. Smith went early so Edmunds was the one available at eight.
Having a player at Edmunds’ size run a 4.54-second 40 is something to behold. Someone as big, athletic, and fast is comparable to Brian Urlacher (6-4, 258 pounds, 4.61-second 40). Once Edmunds enters a professional franchise’s training program, he’ll be even more imposing. Add in some lessons from Fangio and Edmunds could be a pain for opposing defenses for a long time.
