The Chicago Bears did a good job handling their cornerbacks. They matched the offer the hated Green Bay Packers made to Kyle Fuller. Additionally, they re-signed Prince Amukamara.

Even so, they still need some depth. Amukamara has a lot of mileage on his body. He’s played in 83 games and his numbers have steadily gone done over the past 3-4 seasons. He signed a three-year contract, but there is the famous Pace out after two. As a result, he can draft a cornerback now and play him in nickel. If Amukamara does falter, the Bears have a Plan B (something they haven’t had over the past several years).

Isaiah Oliver is that Plan B.

The Bears roster is now filled with a lot of young, athletic players. They want to have long defenders who create mismatches. At 6-1, 201 pounds, Oliver can cover tall receivers. In addition, he has the longest arms in this draft class (33.5 inches). Also, he has the speed to keep up with them. His football IQ is great as well.

He has the ability to be a shutdown corner but he’s still raw. Having a year or two learning under Amukamara will greatly help him. Amukamara did wonders for Fuller. He mentored him as soon as he came to Chicago and he can do the same for Oliver. Keeping Oliver in nickel, for the time being, helps him. Eventually, Isaiah Oliver will be a very good starter. It’ll be nice to have him do that in Chicago.
