We stay with the offensive line here and go with Joseph Noteboom. Though he plays left tackle, The Bears can groom him to play right tackle. Yes, Leno had a good season, but the jury is still out on Bobby Massie.

Noteboom has the ideal big body to play tackle. Also, he has room to pack on some more muscle and be more effective. He is light on his feet and has a good punch off the snap. He finished his career with 40 consecutive starts over his last three seasons.

Noteboom uses great technique and is as athletic as you want in a lineman. His problem is that he isn’t as consistent as you want. He can get beat on the inside and sometimes gets knocked back. This is something that good coaching can fix. The Bears have one of the best in Harry Hiestand.

Hiestand is the reason the Bears shouldn’t go with Nelson in the first round. Yes, you get a player who probably becomes a multiple Pro Bowl player for the next decade, but the roster has more pressing needs. The Bears can wait until later, still get a quality lineman, and Hiestand can coach them up. He had multiple Pro Bowl linemen in his first stint in Chicago and there’s no reason (yet) to believe he can’t do it again.

Noteboom should be a very good pupil. He’s known to be a very hard worker and follows direction well. He has the tools to be a starter. Now he just needs to put everything together. Hiestand can help him do that.
