The Dallas Cowboys don’t have the strongest wide receiver depth chart in the by any means, but there is still some talent remaining for the 2018 season.
The Dez Bryant era for the Dallas Cowboys is officially over, and though he didn’t have the greatest numbers with Dak Prescott as his starting quarterback — mixed with injuries and other issues in his final few seasons — losing Bryant does leave a void of sorts for the wide receiver depth chart one week away from the 2018 NFL Draft.
In releasing Bryant this month, the Cowboys made their bed and will live with it regardless if fans are for or against the decision. They also save from having to spend $16 million for Bryant in 2018, but they might have made life a little tougher for the rest of their receivers as he won’t be on the field to take on the top defensive back of the opposition.
Bryant played eight seasons in his Dallas career and totaled 7,459 yards and 73 touchdowns, but like with all good things, it is time to move on and look to the future with the Cowboys wide receiver depth chart.
The Cowboys also didn’t re-sign Brice Butler to a deal this offseason, resulting him leaving in free agency and signing a two-year deal with the Arizona Cardinals. Butler totaled 15 receptions for 317 yards and three touchdowns in 2017.
Entering the 2018 NFL Draft, the Cowboys have Terrance Williams, Allen Hurns, Noah Brown, Deonte Thompson and Lance Lenoir as their outside wide receivers, while at the slot the roster consists of Cole Beasley, Ryan Switzer and K.D. Cannon.
That isn’t the who’s who of wide receivers for an NFL team, but it isn’t the worst depth chart in the league, either. Don’t be surprised if the Cowboys draft a wide receiver in one of the first two rounds next weekend, but with this franchise, they might have another plan waiting to take place, and that is what makes the NFL offseason intriguing.
Before the draft takes place, here is a look at the current wide receivers of the Cowboys.
