The Oakland Raiders have a lot of issues throughout their secondary. They could certainly use some depth at the safety position, but cornerback is the one that could use some real work. Adding Yiadom early would help, but the Raiders would be wise to consider multiple cornerback prospects in the upcoming draft.

With their fifth round compensatory selection, the Raiders select Western Michigan cornerback Darius Phillips. A quick and tenacious defensive back, there is a lot to like about Phillips’ game. He will primarily be a slot defender at the next level, but his impressive man-to-man skills, ability to defend against the run and quick feet make him a great fit for the position.

The Raiders need a lot of cornerback help and while Phillips cannot play on the outside, he could come in and make an immediate impact on the defensive side of the ball.

In Tahir Whitehead and Bruce Irvin, the Oakland Raiders have two strong starters at linebacker. However, their third linebacker spot is completely up for grabs, and I would like to see them add some more competition at the position in the draft.

In this mock draft, the Raiders take a chance on Christian Sam in the sixth round. Sam is an athletic linebacker prospect who shows strong coverage skills and range for the position. He is a capable man-to-man defender who also shows some ability in zone.

He lacks ideal strength to compete as a run defender inside, but in today’s game, his speed and athleticism is much more important. At worst, Sam would be a fantastic special teams addition for the Raiders.
