Round 4, Pick 109: Wyatt Teller, OG, Virginia Tech

The Redskins have a major hole at left guard and would love to come out of this draft with a young player who could develop into a future starter. In Wyatt Teller of Virginia Tech, the Redskins get that guy. Teller, at 6-4, 314 pounds, is a former defensive lineman who moved to the offensive line as a freshman and ended up being a three-year starter at guard.

Teller was really good in 2016 but took a step back in 2017. He wasn’t bad in 2017, however, his film wasn’t as consistent. Teller is a solid athlete who is extremely powerful. Perhaps Teller’s best attribute is his nastiness. In watching Teller play, you see an old-school offensive lineman who blocks until the whistle on every play. There’s never a lack of effort from Teller. With a good position coach in the NFL — and the Redskins have Bill Callahan — Teller could blossom into a multi-year starter.

Teller isn’t likely to start in his rookie season. He could be a strong backup during his rookie season before competing for a starting position his second year. He has that ability. Teller’s biggest weaknesses are technique. If he can clean that up, an NFL team is going to get extremely good value.

The Redskins met with Teller in the pre-draft process.
