Round 6, Pick 205: Kylie Fitts, EDGE, Utah

The Redskins lost some depth at outside linebacker when Trent Murphy departed via free agency and the team chose to let Junior Galette walk. They did sign veteran Pernell McPhee and are hoping Ryan Anderson takes a major step forward in 2018.

So, it won’t be a surprise if Washington adds an outside linebacker in the 2018 NFL Draft. In the sixth round, the Redskins get Kylie Fitts from Utah. Fitts matches the profile of what the Redskins look for in their outside linebackers. He has the size (6-4, 263 pounds) and he also possesses plenty of athleticism, which was on display in Indianapolis when he was clocked at 4.69 seconds in the 40-yard dash. He is similar in size to Ryan Kerrigan, Preston Smith and McPhee.

After a strong sophomore season, Fitts battled numerous injuries during his final two seasons with the Utes. When he played, he showed plenty of promise. He can rush the passer, but more importantly for the Redskins, he proved adept at stopping the run. In Washington, he’d likely be the fourth or fifth outside linebacker with no pressure to play his rookie season. If he impresses coaches, he could make his name on special teams.

Fitts is an intriguing player whose best football could be ahead of him. It wouldn’t be a surprise if he went much higher.
