Round 7, Pick 241: Alex Cappa, OL, Humboldt State

This late in the draft, you are trying to unearth hidden gems. So, with their final pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, the Washington Redskins select offensive lineman Alex Cappa from tiny Humboldt State. At 6-6, 305 pounds, Cappa has ideal size for the NFL. He was a man amongst boys during his college career. With his size and experience, it wouldn’t be a surprise if someone took him a round or two earlier. With a dearth of quality offensive linemen around the NFL, Cappa is an intriguing option.

The Redskins have an outstanding pair of tackles in Trent Williams and Morgan Moses and a top backup in Ty Nsekhe. However, Nsekhe is in the final year of his contract and Washington could be looking at this draft to find his replacement. If the Redskins took Cappa, he could sit and learn under Callahan during his rookie season without the pressure of playing. It would be an ideal situation.

At this stage, Cappa is a better run blocker than he is in pass protection. His length and sneaky athleticism make him a prospect worth developing. Some of his perceived flaws like lack of competition and technique can easily be cleaned up. If Washington can get Cappa with its final pick, it could be a potential steal.
