The New York Jets will finally have their long-awaited franchise quarterback. They will take Sam Darnold with the No. 3 overall selection in the 2018 NFL Draft.

The talk of the draft is quarterbacks in 2018. The New York Jets are definitely taking a quarterback with the No. 3 overall pick, because it would be ludicrous to not take one after all they gave up to move up to that pick.

Many fans and media members are touting the Jets rough history at selecting quarterbacks. All told, the Jets have selected 39 quarterbacks in the AFL/NFL Drafts. However, if you just look at their first round history, they’ve selected six.

While they’ve only won one Super Bowl with those six quarterbacks, five out of six led the Jets to the Playoffs, and three out of the six led the Jets to the AFL/AFC Championship Game. So, it’s not as bleak of a history as it’s made out to be when selecting quarterbacks, especially in the first round.

Fans are skittish about the recent history in quarterback selections, but you do have to remember that Bryce Petty and Christian Hackenberg were fourth and second round picks, respectively, and both were expected to be projects. They just didn’t work out.

The Jets finally have a real chance to take a franchise quarterback. After the Browns select Saquon Barkley with the No. 1 pick and the Giants take Bradley Chubb, they will choose Sam Darnold.

Darnold is the best quarterback in the 2018 NFL Draft. He has the leadership qualities coaches are looking for, and he has all the talent. He throws with anticipation, has a good arm, is accurate, and can make all the reads in progression. The Jets can’t possibly make a mistake here by taking Darnold. Barring injury, the Jets will finally have their guy for the next decade or more.
