The Dolphins grabbed a stud in the first round of the 2018 NFL Draft. Now we need to figure out who they should target in Round 2.

In the first round the Miami Dolphins went with who they viewed as the best player available and scooped up a future superstar in Alabama safety Minkah Fitzpatrick. Turning our attention to Round 2 the team needs to start thinking about adding another star who ever that may be.

The top option needs to be the best player currently on the board. Right now that’s Iowa cornerback Josh Jackson who somehow slipped into the second round. There are always one or two head-scratchers that slip and he is undoubtedly the most obvious this year. I mocked him in at pick No. 18 to the Seattle Seahawks.

Despite the fact Miami may not be in dire need of a corner, I still firmly believe in picking the best player you possibly can over settling for a lesser player of higher need.

Right behind him is UTEP guard Will Hernandez. There is a shot he’s both the best player and biggest need when the Dolphins pick. I have him ranked as the second best player currently available and the team could definitely use a boost on the interior offensive line. It has been their most glaring flaw for years now and Hernandez could be an immediate impact player or at the very least add much needed depth.

Penn State tight end Mike Gesicki could also fill a prominent hole in the offense and be a big time contributor. The long and athletic tight end is built in the mold of today’s pass-catchers at the position. He was a force to be reckoned with on the college level and should very well bring that same presence to the NFL. The Dolphins badly need help at tight end and he could go a long way in helping head coach Adam Gase run the system he needs to utilize to be successful.

There are a few other options still on the table to keep your eye on. Michigan defensive tackle Maurice Hurst could be year one starter with massive upside immediately. Boston College edge rusher Harold Landry also is intriguing and you can never have enough pass rushers although his game needs developing. Colorado corner Isaiah Oliver and Texas offensive lineman Connor Williams could also be studs on the next level and deserve consideration.
