NFL Draft Grades 2018: Arizona Cardinals trade up for Josh Rosen at No. 10
The Arizona Cardinals moved up from No. 15 to 10 go get the quarterback with a new chip on his shoulder, Josh Rosen in the 2018 NFL Draft.
UCLA quarterback Josh Rosen came into the 2018 NFL Draft process with a bit of reputation. There were reports that he was — to put it in the simplest terms — a bit of a jerk. As the draft drew near, controversial comments from his former UCLA head coach Jim Mora shined an even more negative spotlight on a quarterback many has ranked as the No. 1 or 2 quarterback in the draft.
Still, Rosen kept his head up and never seemed to let any of the criticism affect him. In fact, he admitted that it’ll all serve as motivation as the Arizona Cardinals moved up from No. 15 to No. 10 to select a player with a huge chip on his shoulder. Fans shouldn’t just be excited that they got a guy who’ll use the experience as fuel, either.
It’s the tools Rosen has in his arsenal that should get fans excited. Rosen is the prototypical quarterback at 6-4 226-pounds, hailing from an offense that forced him to make NFL type reads. which he did so excellently. What makes Rosen special is his a balance, poise and the ability to move the pocket and throw receivers open. He has great eyes and feet and should be called on as the starter — he’s NFL ready.
Although the Cardinals moved up, there won’t be any rush to start Rosen since they have Sam Bradford and Mike Glennon in place. However, there’s a chance this could come down to how smart Rosen really is at it pertains to his ability to pick up the playbook. If he can put it all together as a rookie and keep the competition close between he and his fellow quarterbacks, then we could see a situation where Rosen starts sooner rather than later.
