Two more players were selected by the Dallas Cowboys on day two of the 2018 NFL Draft with the offense being the main focal point.

The Dallas Cowboys welcomed two new players to the franchise after possibly saying goodbye to another on an eventful Friday for the five-time Super Bowl champions. The day began with the breaking news of the pending retirement of future Hall of Fame tight end Jason Witten, as it is said he’ll be in the Monday Night Football broadcast booth this upcoming season.

Then came the second day of the 2018 NFL Draft, and the Cowboys focused on the offensive side of the ball by drafting guard Connor Williams out of the University of Texas with the 18th pick in the second round (50th overall) and Michael Gallup, a wide receiver from Colorado State, with the 17th pick of the third round (81st overall).

Both selections fill a need for the Cowboys on the depth chart, and most likely both will be playing on Sunday in Week 1 when the Cowboys face the Carolina Panthers. The Cowboys will possibly be placing Williams at left guard or right tackle and keeping La’el Collins at one of those spots as well. At wide receiver, Gallup is most likely to have targets go his way from Dak Prescott during the 2018 season with the receiver depth chart currently having question marks.

Through the first two rounds of the NFL Draft, the Cowboys have drafted for need and not necessarily the “best player available.” That is fine, especially as it pertains to the upcoming season, because the Cowboys have some glaring issues on the depth chart following the disappointing 2017 season in which they missed the playoffs, so this draft must be used for need instead of the taking the popular names.

With that said, day two of the NFL Draft for the Cowboys was well above average, and with the two newest members of the Cowboys joining an already talented offense in place, the win total could trend upward compared to last season’s overall record.

Here is a look at both of the day two selections of the Cowboys.
