Grade: A

Two rounds in a row, the Bears get a potential impact starter who can step in and make their presence felt from Day 1. They came into the 2018 draft with a plan to upgrade the interior of the offensive line, and do exactly that with the selection of James Daniels here.

Although he played center at Iowa, Daniels could slide over to guard in Chicago. The Bears already have Cody Whitehair as the starting center, but Eric Kush is far from cemented atop the right guard depth chart. Look for the former Hawkeye to come in and push the incumbent for the starting gig — or simply force Whitehair over to guard.

So what makes Daniels so special? Well, he’s one of the most well-rounded interior blockers of the 2018 draft class. He’s got a sky-high ceiling due to his impressive athleticism, sound technique and relentless motor. The tape shows a prospect who is ready to start the moment he steps on the field.

The Bears have an exceptional young quarterback in Trubisky who needs to be protected. This Daniels pick proves that Chicago is invested in keeping the young gunslinger and former No. 2 overall pick upright in 2018.
