Grade: A

Well it took until the end of the sixth round, but the Vikings finally addressed the guard position. And while this is far too late to make an addition at their biggest position of need, they got tremendous value in Colby Gossett.

Seriously, this kid has Day 3 steal written all over him. He started 45 games at right guard for Appalachian State, one of the best FCS programs in the country. Gossett is a mauler in the ground game, using his massive, powerful frame to move defenders with ease.

The problem is that he isn’t a great athlete, which will limit him to the interior. While that may be the case, he looks like a solid technician on film who wins with efficient movements, good hand use and high football IQ. Some NFL coaching will help him continue to overcome his physical limitations.

Honestly, I’m not sure he’s going to be ready to contribute as a rookie. Gossett flashed his potential at the Senior Bowl, and has the look of a quality starting offensive lineman. Realistically, though, it’s going to take some significant development before he’s ready to see consistent snaps. Despite that, the value here is undeniable — nice pick, Rick.
