The New York Giants could’ve done a little better for themselves on the final day of the 2018 NFL Draft, especially given the way Dave Gettleman handled the first two days of this draft.

New York Giants general manager Dave Gettleman he hit the picks out of the park on Days 1 and 2 in the 2018 NFL Draft. He got some talent that filled holes with good talent and built a win-now team. The best way to describe his two Day 3 picks are what is new commonly used term…meh.

To be fair, it would be hard to match what he did on the first two days, and Gettleman didn’t completely let the air out of the balloon, but he just could’ve done slightly better.

Let’s examine the two picks.

Kyle Luletta, QB, Richmond

The Giants clearly drafted him to be a third string quarterback and possibly to challenge for the backup role in 2018. That said, Luletta rose up some draft boards late.

The best way to describe Luletta is that he’s the polar opposite of Josh Allen. He makes good decisions with the football and is accurate, but he doesn’t have the necessary arm strength to make all of the throws in the NFL. His best NFL comparison for those in the New York Metropolitan area would be Chad Pennington.

R.J. McIntosh, DT, Miami

McIntosh is an unfinished extremely raw talent who should’ve stayed in school one more season to build his body. He’s shown some flashes of athleticism, but not really enough to warrant being drafted as a base end in a 3-4 scheme.

It was the first reach of Gettleman who’s taking a flyer on this pick. It’s okay to take a flyer once in a while, but when the Giants could’ve used players at other positions, this was too much of a reach.
