Safeties: (4): Xavier Woods, Jeff Heath, Kavon Frazier, Kameron Kelly
Dallas also goes four-deep at safety. Part of the reason they can do this instead of the normal five is the flexibility of some of their corners. That same flexibility of their safeties allows them to go short on corners.
As mentioned already, Byron Jones played safety for Dallas and is moving back to corner. While it’s not ideal to move him around, he can play safety in a pinch which has to make them feel comfortable. Starting at free safety in his place is 2017 sixth-round pick Xavier Woods.
The second-year player also offers versatility as Woods lined up often at corner during his rookie season. He displayed great cover skills and could be a breakout candidate. Starting next to him in this prediction is Kavon Frazier. Late last season Frazier was given more playing time and brought some much-needed strength to the back end of their defense.
The primary backup will be Jeff Heath, who played well as a starter in 2017 and will still see the field a lot. The main reason he doesn’t beat out Frazier here is because the defense needs that enforcer role Frazier offers.
The final spot is occupied by undrafted rookie Kameron Kelly. He won’t be a star as a rookie, but there’s a lot to like about him and he could find a nice role.
