C Hroniss Grasu

I don’t think anyone is going to argue with this one.

Since the Bears made him a third-round pick back in 2015, Hroniss Grasu has essentially been a non-factor. Between injuries and ineffective play, he has more than earned the walking papers that will likely be handed to him in the very near future.

The worst part? Grasu has had more than enough opportunities. Sure, injuries have hindered his progress, but he’s had chances to carve out a niche for himself. Instead, he’s struggled to earn snaps despite the Bears’ need for more contributors along the interior of the front five.

Well, this is where the road ends. The Bears now have two quality, starting-caliber centers in Cody Whitehair and James Daniels. Eric Kush can also step in as the anchor of the offensive line if needed. Considering Grasu doesn’t exactly offer much versatility or special teams support, it’s looking like his spot on the roster is essentially being wasted.

Grasu looked like an exceptional pick a few years ago. After three seasons of missed opportunities, though, it’s the right time for the two sides to part ways. This relationship has been headed for divorce for awhile now — it’s finally arrived.
