3. Johnson, Adams and Maye will be named to the Pro Bowl

You want a bold statement, well here you go. Trumaine Johnson, Jamal Adams and Marcus Maye will be named to the 2018 NFL Pro Bowl. Wait a second. Maybe that’s not an outrageously bold statement when you come to think about it.

The Jets possess the talent to have one of the best defensive backfields in the NFL. Morris Claiborne returns at corner after a pretty solid 2017 campaign and will be flanked by general manager Mike Maccagnan’s prize free agent acquisition – cornerback Trumaine Johnson. The University of Montana product spent his first six seasons with the Rams and is considered one of the premier press-man corners in the league.

The 6-2, 213-pounder has 18 career interceptions, including three which he returned for touchdowns. He’s averaged 11.5 passes defensed per year and is known as a reliable tackler. Johnson instantly becomes New York’s top corner, a player that can blanket the opposition’s number one wide receiver. That is imperative in Todd Bowles’ defensive scheme where he’ll not have to worry about one side of the field. The Jets can then afford to blitz more often.

Mix in Adams and Maye, two of the better young safeties in the NFL, and now you’re talking. Sure, both players had their share of hiccups last season but all rookies do. Adams was named to the 2017 NFL All-Rookie contingent while Maye finished fourth on the Jets in tackles (56) and added a pair of interceptions. Both players started every game for Gang Green last year and will only get better with more experience.

It’s certainly a tall order to have three players from the same defensive backfield make a Pro Bowl roster. With this talented trio though, it would not be shocking at all.
