Looking for some cornerback help? That was obviously the case this offseason when it came to the Browns this offseason. When you look at their defensive numbers from a year ago, the first season under coordinator Gregg Williams, they may not appear to be so bad (19th in the NFL). But a much closer look shows that this was a defensive unit that allowed a league-high 32 scores through the air.

As for the acquisitions, the Browns picked up former Green Bay Packers first-round pick, cornerback Damarious Randall. Free agency brings the likes of Terrance Mitchell (Kansas City Chiefs) and T.J. Carrie (Oakland Raiders). Dorsey also used the fourth overall pick on Ohio State’s Denzel Ward. It’s safe to say there will be plenty of competition in training camp in this department.

But perhaps their best cornerback addition comes in three-year pro E.J. Gaines. He suddenly finds himself on his third team in as many years. Originally a sixth-round draft choices by the Rams in 2015, he was dealt to the Buffalo Bills a year ago as part of the Sammy Watkins deal. Now Pro Football Focus’ 12th-ranked cornerback looks to make an impact in Williams’ defense. A year ago, he played and started 11 games and finished with 59 tackles, one interception and nine passes defensed.

With the likes of Antonio Brown, A.J. Green, Michael Crabtree and more making their homes in the AFC North, the Browns’ secondary needs all the help it can get.
