1. Tyrod Taylor, QB (from Buffalo Bills)
It is very difficult to make any strides on offense when you don’t have the football. That was a big problem for the Cleveland Browns this past season. The team committed a disturbing 41 turnovers, the most in the league since the New York Giants coughed it up 44 times in 2013.
All told, 28 of those miscues belong to then-rookie quarterback DeShone Kizer — now a member of the Green Bay Packers. This offseason, the Browns dealt for former Pro Bowl quarterback Tyrod Taylor, who spent the past three seasons with the Buffalo Bills and helped that club reach the playoffs a year ago (for the first time since 1999).
While the seven-year pro certainly has his shortcomings, he’s proved to be a lot more efficient than advertised. And he’s also done a terrific job of taking care of the pigskin. Including last year’s playoff setback to the Jacksonville Jaguars, Taylor played in a total of 45 games with the Bills since 2015. He combined for 51 touchdown passes and also ran for 14 scores. He also committed a mere 22 turnovers check in those 45 contests.

For what it’s worth, Kizer himself turned over the ball 28 times in 15 outings as a rookie. New general manager John Dorsey know a little something about limiting miscues, having his recent roots in both Green Bay and Kansas City. If Taylor can offer the same kind of ball security in Cleveland as he did in Buffalo, this team certainly has a fighting chance to stay more than competitive.
