CB Coty Sensabaugh

After a few tough years in terms of the Steelers’ cornerback talent, things have finally undergone significant improvement. Suddenly, they almost have too many capable contributors in the secondary, which means a notable name could be shown the door during training camp.

Well, if I had to pick one, it would be Coty Sensabaugh.

Now here’s my take on locks to stay up in Pittsburgh: Joe Haden, Artie Burns, Mike Hilton and Cameron Sutton. That leaves maybe two roster spots left at the cornerback position. One should be consumed by Brian Allen, a 2017 fifth-round pick. That leaves Sensabaugh and Dashaun Phillips to try to convince the coaching staff they belong.

When all is said and done, though, I’m predicting neither survives. Phillips failed to earn snaps with the Steelers a season ago, and struggled with the Washington Redskins before that. While Sensabaugh offers more talent and value, he’s an aging cover man who is quickly being eclipsed by Pittsburgh’s younger playmakers.

So, when the Steelers wrap up training camp, they’ll decide to simply let Sensabaugh walk. There are other positions of higher priority Pittsburgh can use that roster spot to stabilize instead of settling on the average talents of the former Clemson standout.
